Fremont Teen Killed in a Violent Car Crash
May 15th─ Students at James Logan High School met with grief counselors Monday as they tried to overcome their sorrows with the weekend car crash in Fremont. The senior was killed Sunday morning in a violent car crash while returning home in her mother’s car after prom. It’s the second time in less than a year a senior at the high school has been killed in a car accident.
Police said the deadly crash occurred at around 2:30 a.m. 18-year-old Shane Marcelino, who was riding in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother, Maria Marcelino who was driving, sustained non-life threatening injuries, and is still hospitalized according to reports. They were less than two blocks away from their home when a car hit them. The teen and her mother were in a Toyota Yaris, turning left turn from Fremont Boulevard when a Chevy Malibu crashed into their vehicle.
Victim Remembered at Prayer Service
Fiends, family, and parishioners remembered Marcelino at a prayer service at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Friends described Marcelino as “passionate about music” and “was scheduled to sing at the church Sunday night during Mass”. “She was very active in the church and had a beautiful voice,” Rev. Jun Manalo said. Marcelino’s face was projected on the wall inside the church at St. Anne’s. It was an evening filled with a lot of tears and comforting hugs. Marcelino was an honors student, played the flute for the school band, and was just a month away from graduation. “She was supposed to be graduating next month and just not seeing that hurts my heart and I just want to see her graduate,” said friend David Willkom.
“She had the most beautiful smile and the most beautiful personality. She was very bubbly and silly. Our community is going to miss the shining light that she was”, said Samantha Salisi, who was Marcelino’s godmother. Fremont police are investigating to see alcohol may have been a factor in the crash that also injured two occupants in the other vehicle. No arrests have been made and the two men were cooperating with the investigation.
