Pedestrian Hit and Killed in Freeway

Freeways at night time can usually go very smoothly or tragically. Many can accidents take place at night time—drivers are sleepy, vision is limited, and reckless behavior is more present. As this weekend came to an end and Monday morning began to roll in, a terrible accident took place on the southbound I-680 freeway near the bay area.
In the dead of night, at around 3:30 a.m., officers received calls of an unfortunate wrongful death accident that took place in a freeway. The incident had happened near Stoneridge Drive. Calls were put in that a pedestrian had been hit multiple times on a freeway by three separate vehicles. When police officers finally arrived on the scene, the man was found in the center lanes of the freeway and was declared dead.
California Highway Patrol shutdown all the southbound lanes traffic at around 3:45 a.m. to conduct investigation. There were no other vehicles on the side of the road that explained why the man was on the interstate. Authorities are still trying to investigate and figure out why the pedestrian ended up on the highway.
The I-680 remained closed from the 580 connector and Stroneridge Drive for about one hour and 45 minutes as policemen continued to investigate and the body taken to the coroner’s office. Around 6:30 a.m., all the lanes on the 680 south were reopened. The highway reopened just in time for the morning rush of traffic.
While the lanes were closed, traffic had to be diverted to the westbound I-580 for about three hours during morning traffic. All commuters were warned of possible delays and advised to use alternate routes for their morning commute.
This wrongful death accident is still under investigation as authorities try to figure out why the man was present in the middle of the freeway. Since it was dark, drivers probably did not notice the figure walking in the middle of the street.
