Motorcyclist Airlifted After Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-40 Near Mojave National Preserve
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CA (6/25/2025) — In the Mojave Desert, a motorcyclist suffered major injuries and was airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital Wednesday morning. These events followed a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 near Kelbaker Road, close to the Mojave National Preserve.
The collision occurred at approximately 11:13 a.m. near mile marker 82.5, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Preliminary reports indicate the motorcyclist was ejected from the bike after colliding with multiple vehicles in the westbound slow lane.
Due To The Remote Location of the Mojave Desert, The Rider Was Airlifted To Las Vegas
Emergency personnel from CHP, Medic Engine 32, and paramedics responded to the scene. Due to the critical nature of the rider’s injuries, Care Flight 6 was dispatched and transported the patient to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
During the emergency response, both westbound lanes of I-40 were temporarily shut down to allow the air ambulance to land safely. Caltrans was requested to implement a hard closure of the No. 2 lane. By 12:44 p.m., the fast lane had reopened, with all lanes eventually cleared.
A Toyota Camry was towed from the scene, and CHP logs suggest additional vehicles may have been involved. The total number of vehicles and the cause of the crash remain under investigation.
The identity of the injured motorcyclist has not yet been released, and no further updates on their condition were available as of Thursday morning.
