Riverside, CA (June 29, 2023) – Late Sunday evening, June 25, Kevin Olvera became one of two men who lost their lives after being struck by an unlicensed driver in Riverside. The fatal crash occurred around 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of Van Buren Boulevard and Challen Avenue.
According to the Riverside Police Department, a 17-year-old driver behind the wheel of a 2011 GMC pickup truck was traveling at a significantly high speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck veered off course, mounting the curb as it traveled southbound on Van Buren. Tragically, this path intersected with the two men and their canine companion who were walking nearby.

The force of the collision resulted in the immediate deaths of all three victims at the scene. Additionally, the out-of-control truck collided with a traffic signal, compounding the damage caused by the incident.
Among the victims, Kevin Olvera, 19, was identified. His untimely passing leaves behind a heartbroken family, including his two young children. Notably, his daughter, Karla Olvera, was born just ten days prior, on June 14.
The second victim was a man in his 30s, whose identity has not yet been disclosed.
Police investigators have reason to believe that alcohol may have played a role in the crash. Consequently, they have arrested the unlicensed teenage driver responsible for the incident.
