Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Fatal Crash on Highway 58
TEHACHAPI, CA (June 18, 2025) — A suspected wrong-way driver was killed in a head-on crash Wednesday afternoon on Highway 58, just west of Highway 202, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred around 1:30 p.m. when a westbound Jeep, reportedly traveling in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes, slammed into an oncoming Ram 1500 pickup truck.
The driver of the Jeep, a woman who has not yet been publicly identified, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Other Driver In The Ram 1500 Was Transported To Bakersfield For Treatment
The driver of the Ram 1500 sustained injuries and was transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment. Their current condition has not been disclosed.
CHP officers are investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
“Investigators will work to determine if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this crash,” said Attorney James Johnson, who is not affiliated with the case but commented on the incident.
