In 2015, in North Las Vegas, a semi-truck was headed eastbound in the number one lane of West Cheyenne, approaching the intersection with Martin Luther King Boulevard. As the truck entered the intersection, our driver—behind the wheel of a 2008 Honda Civic—attempted to make a left-hand turn. He was directly in front of the truck.

Despite taking evasive action to prevent an accident, the trucker was unable to avoid striking the Honda with great force. The force of the collision was so significant, in fact, that it caused sudden and extreme acceleration/deceleration to the driver’s body. Despite being restrained, the driver suffered from severe hyperextension of his head, neck, back, and upper torso.

It was subsequently determined that the driver’s insurance policy would not cover the accident. Liability was hotly contested, and so was the extent of injuries.
