A zookeeper in Quebec was attacked by a Siberian tiger this morning. He is expected to live through his injuries. The 51-year-old man was working at a Lac-St-Jean area zoo.

He was cleaning the inside of the caged or pen area that the lion resides in before 9 a.m. when a female tiger attacked him at the St-Felicien wild zoo.

He has neck injuries. The zookeeper was rushed to a local hospital by ambulance. He was conscious at the time.

Usually, the zookeepers have the two males and one female tigers stay in their nighttime enclosure when the day one is being cleaned. That did not happen this time. The zoo is going to be investigating why this was not the case. The accident will also be attended to and investigated by Quebec’s workplace health and safety investigators.

They stated that paramedics were able to assist the man after the tiger walked away on its own. After the incident, she was placed in an isolated pen. The zoo has not stated that they will put down the tiger.

This particular zoo usually houses North American animals, but the tigers were brought in especially. They are found in the wild in eastern Russia and parts of North Korea and China.
