Top Safety Tips for Riding a Quad In Fresno County

Riding a quad, also known as an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), can be a thrilling experience, but it’s essential to prioritize safety to avoid accidents and injuries. Here are some top safety tips to keep in mind when riding a quad:

  1. Wear proper safety gear: Always wear a DOT-approved helmet, goggles or a face shield, gloves, boots, and protective clothing to protect your body from injury in case of an accident.
  2. Know your vehicle: Familiarize yourself with the ATV’s controls and how it works before you ride it. Read the owner’s manual and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for operation, maintenance, and repairs.
  3. Follow age requirements: Do not allow children under 16 years of age to ride an adult-sized ATV, and make sure young riders use only age-appropriate models. Never carry passengers on a single-rider ATV.
  4. Ride on designated trails: Ride on designated trails or in areas specifically designated for ATV use. Avoid paved roads, as ATVs are not designed for high-speed travel on hard surfaces.
  5. Never drink and ride: Never consume alcohol or drugs before or during an ATV ride, as it can impair your judgment, reflexes, and coordination, which can lead to accidents and injuries.
  6. Use caution when turning: Turn at a safe speed, lean into the turn, and shift your body weight to maintain balance.
  7. Use caution when riding up or down hills: Always ride up or down hills at a safe speed and avoid steep inclines, which can cause the ATV to tip over.
  8. Keep a safe distance: Maintain a safe distance between riders and other vehicles to avoid collisions. Never ride under the influence of peer pressure, and never ride an ATV in areas not meant for off-road use.
  9. Check the vehicle before each ride: Before each ride, check the ATV’s tires, brakes, steering, and suspension to ensure they are functioning correctly.
  10. Take an ATV safety course: Consider taking an ATV safety course to learn proper riding techniques, safety procedures, and emergency maneuvers.

Following these safety tips can help ensure a fun and safe ATV riding experience.
