Hit-and-run Driver Strikes and Kills Pedestrian in North Fresno

FRESNO, CA (February 22, 2019) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in the evening on Thursday by a hit-and-run driver. The February 21 accident occurred near Copper River Drive and Friant, close to the Copper River County Club.

The time was roughly a bit before 6:30 p.m., according to Bill Dooley. Dooley is a lieutenant with the Fresno Police.

Reports say calls were made to police about a person who had been hit by a vehicle. When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim lying in the road. The identity of the victim, including the person’s name, age, and city of residence have not yet been reported.

Police think that the victim had been crossing the road on foot within a crosswalk. The vehicle, which police think had been heading north on Friant, hit the victim where Copper River Drive intersects.

Hours after the accident was reported, officers said they found the vehicle they suspect was involved. It was found in Auberry, close to Table Mountain. Reports say a suspect was questioned by police. No details have been reported on the type of vehicle involved, the identity of the driver—including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence—or the circumstances that led to the accident.

Investigators are continuing their examination of the details and information regarding the accident.
