Hit-and-run Crash Injures Two Parents Traveling with Children in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, CA (April 18, 2019) – A hit-and-run driver crashed into a vehicle in Wilmington in the afternoon on Wednesday, injuring a father and mother. Traveling with the victims were their children. The April 17 accident occurred in the vicinity of Gulf Avenue and Anaheim Street.
The time was roughly 1:45 p.m., according to Rachel Campbell. Campbell is a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Port Police.
According to Randy Allen, who is a deputy chief with the Los Angeles Port Police, a pickup truck collided with the victims’ vehicle. Reports say an officer had seen a vehicle—described as a pickup truck, green in color—traveling in an erratic manner prior to the accident.
As the officer began to come nearer to the pickup, the suspect driver drove through a stop sign and crashed into the vehicle in which the family had been traveling. The family’s vehicle—described as an SUV—was struck broadside. The SUV overturned and landed on its roof. It then slid some distance on the road.
The suspect exited the pickup, and ran away from the accident site. Respondents arrived and took both parents to a hospital. The injuries they suffered were described as minor. According to police, the children were not hurt. The identities of the family members, including their names, ages, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Investigators are looking for the suspect driver. They are examining the details and information from the incident.
