Bryan Herrera Identified as Teen Driver Who Crashed on 405 Freeway in Westminster
WESTMINSTER, CA (August 30, 2018) – The teen driver who died in Westminster on the 405 Freeway on Thursday was identified by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. The young man was Bryan Herrera, an 18-year-old resident of Huntington Beach, said Larry Deitz with the coroner’s office.
Herrera had been driving on the 405 Freeway on the northbound side when the vehicle he was driving struck the rear end of a big rig that had been slowing down for traffic a bit north of Goldenwest Street. The time was roughly 12:40 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol.
Responders took Herrera to a hospital in Los Angeles County, where he was pronounced deceased.
According to an early report, the driver had been traveling in the number 3 lane in a 2017 Honda Accord at a speed that was not known. A big rig—described as a 1998 Kenworth—was traveling in the same lane, and going at roughly 5 miles per hour, CHP says.
For reasons that are not known, CHP says, the Honda struck the rear end of the semi-truck trailer. The impact of the crash caused major injuries to the driver.
The person driving the truck, identified as a 31-year-old resident of Pomona, was not injured.
