Car Hits Elderly Couple Walking in West Covina, Killing Man

WEST COVINA, CA (December 14, 2018) – A car struck an elderly couple walking across a street in West Covina in the morning on Thursday, killing the man. The December 13 accident occurred where Sunset Avenue and Fairgrove Avenue intersect, according to Rudy Lopez. Lopez is a spokesperson for the West Covina Police.

The time was a bit after 7:00 a.m.

According to reports, a couple—identified as a man 79 years old and a woman 72 years old, both of La Puente—had been crossing Sunset Avenue on foot, heading west. Police say that the couple was walking inside a crosswalk when a vehicle—described as a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze—hit them. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a woman 27 years old.

Reports say that the driver was making a turn to the left, from Fairgrove Avenue heading east to Sunset Avenue heading north. Lopez said the driver did not see the people walking. The driver stayed at the accident scene and cooperated with the investigation. According to reports, police do not suspect driving under the influence was a factor in the accident.
