Head-on Collision in Valley Center Kills Three People

VALLEY CENTER, CA (February 13, 2019) – Three people were killed, and another person was injured in a head-on crash early in the morning on Tuesday in Valley Center. The February 12 accident occurred on Valley Center Road, in an area between Paradise Creek Lane and North Lake Wohlford Road, according to Mark Latulippe. Latulippe is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.

The time was roughly a bit before 6:15 a.m.

Reports say that a vehicle—described as a tow truck—had been traveling north on Valley Center Road, and another vehicle—described as a Ford F-150—had been heading south. The Ford, for reasons that are not known, traveled into the opposite lanes of traffic. According to Latulippe, the Ford collided head on with the tow truck.

Three victims—identified as men—who had been traveling in the Ford died at the accident scene. Their names and cities of residence have not been reported. They were described as ranging in age from 25 to 45. A fourth person—identified also as a man—who had been traveling as a passenger in the Ford’s front seat fled on foot after the collision.

Later that day, officers from the California Highway Patrol found the fourth man. He is reported to have said to the officers that he left the collision site and went to the house of a relative because he did not have a phone on him. It has not been reported if he suffered injuries.

Respondents took the person who had been driving the tow truck to Palomar Medical Center with injuries that were characterized as minor. The tow truck driver’s identity—including name, age, and city of residence—have not yet been reported.

Investigators are continuing their examination of the details and evidence to understand the circumstances that led to the crash.
