A 22 year old man, Manuel Alejandro Garcia was killed in a hit and run Saturday.
Garcia said said to have been walking his dog on the shoulder of State Route 299 near Buddy’s Auto Center. Garcia was said to live in the area with his mother and brother.
Humboldt County Deputy Coroner, Roy Horton, said he found a “dog leash and chain” near the scene. The dog had returned home.
California Highway Patrol found Garcia dead at the scene. The driver did not stop.
Officers found a car near Ray’s Market in Willow Creek believed to be the vehicle but did not find the driver.
CHP located suspect, Daniel
Robert Koening, personal injury lawyer.
Roy Jones, 36, arrested, and booked him for suspicion of driving under the influence, hit and run, manslaughter, and delaying or obstructing an officer.
Garcia’s mother identified him after asking CHP information about her son who had been missing. The family took Garcia’s death poorly.
Garcia was to have an autopsy. CHP will try to match Garcia’s blood and tissue to damage to Jones’ car.
