Elderly Woman Beaten and Sexually Assaulted by Suspect Who Steals Her Car in Tustin
TUSTIN, CA (May 6, 2020) – A 75-year-old woman was beaten and sexually assaulted by a suspect before he stole her vehicle in Tustin. The incident is alleged to have occurred on April 30, but the injured woman was not found until roughly 14 hours after the attack, a day later.
According to reports, Tustin Police said the woman was found with injuries to her face and she was partly nude. The woman was located on W. Sixth Street in the 600 block, in bushes.
Responders transported the injured woman to the hospital. Her condition was described as critical. Her identity has not been reported.
Reports say the person who is suspected in the incident–later identified as Fernando Valdovinos, a resident of Santa Ana, 24 years old–struck the woman’s face a number of times and assaulted her sexually.
According to reports, Valdovinos, and a girl 16 years of age who was with him, are alleged to have left the victim and drove off in her vehicle.
Days later, on the afternoon of May 2, officers saw the vehicle of the injured woman; three people were traveling in it. A police officer made the vehicle stop, and took Valdovinos, the teenager, and a second man into custody; the other man was released as it was determined he had not been involved in the incident.
Officers arrested and booked Valdovinos on suspicion of attempted rape, attempted murder, elder abuse, other sexually related crimes, and carjacking. According to reports, Valdovinos was on probation for an earlier incident, described as auto theft.
According to reports, the teenager was booked on suspicion of conspiracy and carjacking into Orange County Juvenile Hall. Reports say that according to police, the girl did not participate in the assault on the woman; she is on probation, however, for robbery.
