Truck Driver Drives Onto Train Tracks Derailing Train

Posted on March 4, 2015 | Written By: iadminlaw

Prosecutors released a truck driver who they say made a,”mistake”, when he turned onto railroad tracks. The train was derailed.

National Transportation Safety Board wants to try to understand why the accident happened.

Apparently the driver turned onto the tracks missing the street he was supposed to take.

The driver’s name was Jose Alejandro Sanchez-Ramirez, 54, of Yuma, Arizona.

He was sent to jail and then released. The investigation was in complete concord with Ramirez’s account of the events leading up to and surrounding the accident. He stated that he did not try to leave the scene of the accident.

Ron Barnieh, Ramierez’s attorney, said his client tried to get the car off the tracks, then had to escape with his life.

Thirty-four people were injured in the accident.

There have been six collisions at that crossing in the last seven years. Two people were killed in one of the accidents.

No charges will be filed immediately.

Ramirez did not speak English well. It is reported that he did not call 911. He tried to get help from others. He then called his son to assist him in speaking with the authorities.

Ramirez’s son, Daniel Sanchez, released a statement of empathy for the injured.

NTSB officials said a 31 year old student engineer was conducting the train under the guidance of a 42 year senior employee of Metrolink.

The train was traveling 64 mph when the truck was sighted.

The brakes were applied 8 seconds before the accident.
