Pine Valley Crash on I-8 Kills Truck Driver and Passenger
PINE VALLEY, CA (May 14, 2021) – Early in the evening on Wednesday in Pine Valley, a truck driver and passenger were killed when the big rig they were traveling in went off of I-8 in a fiery crash. The May 12 incident occurred close to Buckman Springs Road.
The time was roughly a little before 7:50 p.m., Travis Garrow said. Garrow is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
The big rig went off the roadway on the eastbound side, struck a rail of the bridge, and went down a dirt slope. The truck erupted in flames.
Two people were trapped in the fiery wreckage, according to reports.
Responders arrived from Cal Fire, Border Patrol, and the California Highway Patrol. They found the driver had died at the crash site. His identity has not been reported.
Some hours after the crash, responders were able to locate the other person who had been in the truck. The person, identified only as a man, was also killed in the incident.
The identities of the people who died will be made public by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office after notification of next of kin, according to reports.
