Reckless driving can cause unnecessary car accidents and personal injuries. When a careless driver gets behind the wheel, he or she is risking the safety of the people on the road. One incident on a Wednesday night proved that negligent driving has disastrous consequences. However, this occurrence was a bit unique in that the driver of the vehicle was not exactly an eligible driver.

On Wednesday night of October 3, one police officer saw a vehicle driving recklessly on the road. It was around 1 a.m. so driving under the influence was an assumption the police officer made. The car was swerving on the road on Del Obispo Street. The policeman tried to stop the car but it only resulted in a high speed pursuit through San Juan Capistrano.

The chase ended about four mile southwest of Dana Point when another police officer joined the chase. The individual was driving a Chevy Aveo which the driver crashed into a tree in the center divider of Dana Point Harbor Drive. Right after the crash, the driver ran from the car and towards the water. It was then that the vehicle burst into flames.

Police officers searched for the driver for five minutes before finding him at around 1:30 a.m. The driver was hiding in the bushes near a boat dock. Surprisingly enough, the driver also turned out to be a 12-year old boy.

Authorities are saying that the boy was very lucky to not have been injured in the incident. The identity of the boy has not been released but the boy has been returned to his parents. The case was given to the Orange County district attorney’s office but it is still unclear whether the charges will be filed against the juvenile. The car belonged to his parents and so far no motive has been found as to why the boy would steal the car.

The Chevy Aveo the boy had been driving was quickly put out by firefighters. Three firefighters were able to put out the fire before any other injuries could have been caused.

While a 12-year old should never be allowed to drive a car, careless driving by adults can be just as dangerous. Personal injury is often caused because of car collisions. If you have been involved in a car crash, contact a Kings County personal injury attorney today.
