A basketball player from West Aurora has died in a tragic car accident in California on Sunday. Derrick Duff Jr. was lying down in the back of a vehicle, a Jeep to be exact, when the driver lost control of the car. They careened on Highway 101 and Duff Jr. was thrown from the back of the vehicle.
Derrick Duff Jr., 18-years-old, was in the car with another teen who drove and crashed it at 2:20 am on Saturday morning.
Officials have stated that an autopsy is pending. The students were driving back from a spring break trip to Pismo Beach in California.
Duff Jr. went to West Aurora High School for his first year of high school and then he moved to Bakersfield, Calif. with his mother. His coach at the Bakersfield school called him a stellar athlete. It is clear he will be missed.
