Driver Smashes into Chase Bank in Torrance; Fire Destroys Building
TORRANCE, CA (August 26, 2019) – A vehicle smashed into a Chase bank building on Friday night, setting off a blaze that destroyed the structure. The August 23 incident occurred in the area of Carson Street and Hawthorne Boulevard.
Reports say a vehicle—which has not been described—crashed into the building after it went out of the driver’s control. According to Alec Miller, who is a fire official, the Torrance Fire Department was notified by a police officer who witnessed the incident.
The officer helped two occupants who had been traveling in the vehicle until other responders arrived. According to Jon Henderson, who is the Assistant Fire Chief, the two victims suffered injuries that were described as minor. The identities of the two people—including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence—have not been reported.
Due to the size of the fire, crews were also called from fire departments in Los Angeles County, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, and Redondo Beach.
Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and facts to understand what factors contributed to the crash.
