A 3-year-old toddler was killed Wednesday afternoon after climbing into a car and becoming trapped. The tragedy happened in the Sylmar section of Los Angeles, according to the police.
On Wednesday, temperature was 96 degrees in Los Angeles. It wasn’t clear how long the toddle was inside the dangerously-hot car.
The accident happened in the 14400 block of Foothill Blvd. around 3:30 p.m. They found an unresponsive child, said the police.
The three-year-old was playing outside. He then climbed into the parked car and became trapped. He was later found by his brother, said Officer Bruce Borihanh. The toddler was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to the police, a parent was home at the time of the accident. “There has been no arrest,” Borihanh said in an interview. “It was a tragic accident.”
The death of the toddler in a hot car is the 19th dead in the country this year, according to the San Francisco State University. Three have occurred in California, tied with Texas. Georgia has the most in the nation.
No charges have been filed in the accident. It is still unclear how the child became trapped in the car.
