Maximillion Infinity Petrakos was killed on Sunday, June third after being hit by driver Tina Silva on the Pomona Freeway shoulder.
Twenty-eight year old Silva is suspected to have been driving under the influence when she fatally struck 13-year old Petrakos early Sunday morning at around 12:40 a.m. Petrakos had been out on the shoulder of the Pomona (60) Freeway with his 41-year old mother, Mary Hively in Hacienda Heights. The pair was standing next to Hively’s broken down Toyota Corolla when the unfortunate incident occurred. Hively is currently in critical condition in the hospital after receiving personal injury.
Authorities have said that Silva was going at about 60 miles per hour when she drifted to the right shoulder of the freeway and hit the Toyota and three victims. Petrakos and Hively were not the only casualties in this car accident but also a 10-year old boy whom was inside the Toyota Corolla. Silva had driven away from the scene but was found by police authorities on the Seventh Street exit. She was booked when officers suspected drunk driving.
On Monday and Tuesday after the car accident, grief counselors were present at Petrakos’ school, Lincoln Middle School, to counsel any of his classmates that may have been grieved by this wrongful death. The principal of the school has said that the counselors were there to help any of the students deal with the death of Petrakos. Lincoln student families were informed of the child’s death late Monday afternoon.
During this time of grief, pain, and suffering, Petrakos’ family faces some tough decisions before them. While losing a loved one to a wrongful death is painful, the other victims of this accident can still choose to take legal action by speaking with a Los Angeles car accident lawyer. If you have been injured in an accident that was not your fault or lost someone in a wrongful death, you can file a personal injury claim against the responsible party. Accidents caused by a careless individual—and in this case a careless intoxicated individual—can enable the victim(s) to take legal action that will hold the liable party responsible.
While filing a personal injury claim will never replace a loved one, it will hopefully make the guilty person(s) own up to their actions. If you live in the state of California, contact a California personal injury attorney to seek advice. Such as the incident of Petrakos and the other two victims, a car crash may also leave behind some injured victims. Some accident victims may have lost wages at work, racked up medical bills, or many other kinds of extra expenses that were not their fault. These extra costs can be made up by allowing the responsible party to pay their dues for the pain and suffering they have caused.
If this sounds like a situation similar to yours, contact a personal injury lawyer to see where you can begin to take action. Car accidents and wrongful deaths should never go by unnoticed, and if you have been the victim of an accident, take action by consulting with a car accident lawyer.
