Metrolink Train Hits and Kills Pedestrian in Sylmar
SYLMAR, CA (December 6, 2018) – A person walking in Sylmar was hit and killed in the afternoon on Wednesday by a Metrolink Train. The December 5 accident occurred on San Fernando Road in the 12440 block, between the stations of Newhall and Sylmar/San Fernando, Metrolink said.
The train involved was Metrolink Train 220, which had been heading south on the Antelope Valley line. The time was roughly 3:15 p.m., Margaret Stewart said. Stewart is with the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Paul Gonzales, who is a spokesperson with Metrolink, said the place where the person who had been hit by the train is located is roughly to the north by a half mile from the Sylmar/San Fernando Station.
Respondents arrived and found the victim had died at the accident scene. The name, age, gender, and city of residence of the victim has not yet been reported. No details have yet been reported about the victim, or what caused the accident.
Reports say that no passengers on the train were hurt. The train had 98 people on board, and according to Gonzales, it was held for a time at the accident site. Four other trains that were scheduled to run on the Antelope Valley line had to be canceled, which included two that were to head northbound, and two to head southbound.
Investigators from the Los Angeles Police Department are looking into the details and information to find out why the accident happened.
