A drunk driver described to be in 20s was arrested early Saturday after he crashed into cars and a café. He injured several people standing outside. The crash happened in Downtown Los Angeles near South Spring and 7th streets around 1:15 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
His friend put the man, who was kicked out of an area nightclub for acting up in the club, into the passenger side of the vehicle. Before his friend could walk around and get into the driver’s seat, the drunken passenger jumped in the driver’s sear, enabled the car’s push-button start, and drove off.
The suspect headed south on Spring Street, hitting several parked cars before crashing into a fence at L.A. Café located at 639 S. Spring Street. People standing outside the café were injured by flying debris. At least three were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The driver, who has not been identified, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI. There are no updates on those injured or the friend who had helped his drunken friend into the car at the club.
