The driver suspected of a hit-and-run accident in which he hit a 13-year-old girl as she rode her bike through a crosswalk has turned himself in, according to authorities.
The 66-year-old driver, Arif Abdul Sattar of Fountain Valley, was arrested for suspected felony hit-and-run on Tuesday, a week after the accident occurred.
Emergency crews responded to the collision at West Warner Avenue and South Greenville on February 6 at 7 p.m.
The 13-year-old girl, Teresa Pham, was found lying in the roadway with serious injuries. Witnesses only identified a “small car” as the culprit.
Pham suffered numerous injuries including broken bones in her leg and several gashes on her face. She was wearing her helmet at the time of the accident.
Sattar apparently told his family that he had been involved in an accident, but it was not until they saw the story on the news that they contacted an attorney.
The attorney negotiated with investigators at the police department for six days before Sattar turned himself in. His car was also turned over to the investigation team.
