Semi Truck Hits Motorcyclist Down on Roadway on I-5 in Sun Valley; Rider Dies
SUN VALLEY, CA (July 21, 2020) – Late at night on Sunday in Sun Valley, a motorcyclist who was down on the roadway on I-5 was struck by a semi truck. The motorcyclist died in the July 19 incident, which occurred on the southbound side of the freeway, close to the offramp for Lankershim Boulevard.
The time was roughly 10:40 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say the motorcyclist may have crashed prior to the semi truck incident, and he was thrown to the roadway. A semi truck, which was described only as a vehicle with a red cab, struck the rider. The truck driver did not stop and remain at the scene.
The motorcyclist died at the incident site. He was identified only as a resident of Anaheim, 24 years old. His name has not been reported.
Reports say a second man was hurt on the freeway in the vicinity, and the investigators think two men had been on the roadway prior to the semi truck killing the motorcyclist. The two men may have been down on the freeway after a motorcycle crash, but the details are not clear at this time.
The second victim, who was identified only as 22 years old, suffered major injuries. Responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department transported him to the hospital.
His current condition is not known. His name and city of residence have not been reported. It is not known if he was injured by the semi-truck hitting him, or by incidents in the first crash.
No information has been reported on what may have happened in the first crash that sent the men down on the roadway. According to investigators, the semi-truck had been traveling through a dark portion of the freeway, and the truck driver may not have known a person was struck on the ground.
