Man Killed in Stanton Motorcycle Crash Involving Suspected Jaywalker
STANTON, CA (July 20, 2020) – Mark Palacios was identified as the motorcyclist who was killed in a crash in Stanton on Sunday involving a pedestrian who was reported to have been jaywalking. The July 19 incident occurred on Beach Boulevard close to Katella Avenue.
The time was roughly 10:00 a.m., Orange County Sheriff’s officials said.
Reports say a person walked across Beach Boulevard on the northbound side of the road, and a vehicle–which has not been described–had to stop sharply. A motorcycle, that was behind the vehicle, smashed into its back end. The driver had veered to miss striking the person walking.
Responders arrived and pronounced the motorcyclist deceased at the incident site. According to Larry Esslinger, who is a supervising deputy Orange County coroner, the rider was identified as Mark Palacios, 51 years old, and a resident of Cerritos.
The driver of the vehicle has not been identified in reports.
Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department are searching for the pedestrian who is alleged to have been involved in the crash. The pedestrian was described as male, 30 to 35 years of age. He is thin, and has black hair and facial hair.
If anyone has information regarding the incident, the person can call the Sheriff’s Department. The number is 714-647-7000.
