A slow-speed car chase ended undramatically Friday evening. A pickup truck led police on the slow-speed chase through the San Fernando Valley.
The car chase reached speeds of about 15 mph. It’s suspected that the male suspect was possibly wanted for assault with a deadly weapon. The chase started in San Fernando and ended in Sylmar.
Police tried to stop the pickup truck multiple times by throwing spike strips in front of the truck, but the driver was able to avoid them because he was traveling at such a slow rate of speed.
According to police, the driver is suspected to have been driving under the influence of narcotics. During the pursuit, the driver tossed a bag of some type of white powder out the window. He also tossed a gun out of the pickup truck that the officers were able to recover.
The chase ended when the driver was stopped by two women who were possibly family members flagged him down. He then got out of the truck and surrendered without a struggle. Officers quickly arrested him.
The name of the suspect hasn’t been released.
