Vehicle Fleeing Hit-and-run Near Simi Valley is Struck by Train
SIMI VALLEY, CA (September 5, 2019) – On Tuesday night, a vehicle that was fleeing from a hit-and-run incident near Simi Valley was struck by a train. The September 3 incident occurred on Katherine Road.
The time was roughly 9:00 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say a vehicle—which has not been described—was involved in a collision and then fled the scene. It is not clear from reports what the vehicle struck, and the vehicle has not been described. It is not known if the vehicle fleeing struck another vehicle.
While fleeing from the incident, the vehicle was hit by an Amtrak Pacific Surfliner that had been heading east. The location where the vehicle was on the tracks has not been described in reports.
Two people had been occupants of the vehicle, according to reports. One of the occupants ran away. The other person was trapped inside the wrecked vehicle.
Responders arrived and extricated the person, who they transported to Los Robles Medical Center located in Thousand Oaks. The person suffered injuries that were described as critical. The identity of the person, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been described.
The identity of the other person who had been in the vehicle has also not been described. It is not known if authorities found and apprehended the person.
Reports do not say which person had been driving the vehicle when the hit-and-run crash occurred, and the subsequent incident with the train. No one on the train was hurt in the incident, reports say.
