Tree Falls Across 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks, Causing Multi-vehicle Crash
SHERMAN OAKS, CA (February 22, 2019) – Multiple vehicles collided on the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks in the afternoon on Thursday when a tree fell across the road. The February 21 accident occurred on the on-ramp from Burbank Boulevard to the 405 Freeway southbound.
The time was a bit before 1:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say that the tree—described as a big eucalyptus—fell across the road. Several vehicles collided after the tree fell. Respondents arrived on scene and took one person, who had been a driver of one of the vehicles involved, to the hospital. The identity of the driver—including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence has not yet been reported. It is not known what injuries the person suffered, or the victim’s current condition.
The identities of the other drivers involved in the accident have also not yet been reported. It is not known if anyone else had been traveling in any of the vehicles as a passenger. Reports do not say if anyone else was hurt in the incident.
The types of vehicles involved in the crash were not described, though one of the vehicles may have been a pickup truck. Damages to the vehicles have not been described.
Investigators are looking into the information and evidence to understand the circumstances that caused the crash. Weather may have been a factor in causing the large tree to topple, reports say.
