Vehicle Crashes in Santa Maria Cause Fire at Gas Station on South Broadway
SANTA MARIA, CA (November 9, 2018) – A collision involving two vehicles on city streets in Santa Maria on Thursday morning sent one of the vehicles into a gas station nearby. The vehicle then struck another vehicle fueling up with gas, causing a fire.
The November 8 accident occurred where Broadway and Battles Road intersect, Russ Mengal said. Mengel is a lieutenant with the Santa Maria Police Department.
The time was roughly a little after 7:00 a.m.
According to reports, two vehicles crashed into each other in the intersection. One of the vehicles involved in the initial crash continued to move, heading south. It jumped a curb and entered a gas station located at 1611 S. Broadway.
The vehicle that entered the gas station then crashed into a vehicle that was fueling up with gasoline. According to Mengel, the vehicle that was fueling up erupted in flames, and was then destroyed.
Mengel said the emergency shutoff for gas was used. That limited the amount of fuel that came out. According to Mengel, no one was injured in the fire. No major injuries were reported from the crashes, though it has not yet been reported if anyone was hurt, and what types of injuries the person or people may have suffered.
The identities of the people involved in the crashes have not been reported.
Investigators are looking into the details to find out what caused the accidents.
