Woman Injured in Collision Near Santa Maria on Highway 101 Involving Suspected DUI Teen Driver
SANTA MARIA, CA (November 13, 2019) – Two vehicles collided late at night on Sunday near Santa Maria on Highway 101. The November 10 incident occurred close to where Highway 166 is located.
The time was roughly 11:46 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Ford Focus—had been traveling north at a fast speed and struck the rear end of another vehicle—described as a Nissan Sentra.
The force of the collision sent the Nissan into the median in the center of the highway. After striking the embankment, the Ford overturned and landed upside down, ending up in an area where Thompson Road and the onramp from Highway 166 to Highway 101 is located. Parts of the vehicle, such as a tire and the engine, broke away from the vehicle, reports say.
Responders arrived and discovered the two drivers suffered major injuries. The person who had been driving the Nissan was identified as Cynthia Hawkins, a resident of Pismo Beach, 57 years old.
Responders took Hawkins to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Her current condition is not known.
The person who had been driving the Ford was identified as Justin Koslosky, a resident of Solvang, 18 years old. Officers arrested Koslosky on suspicion of DUI.
Investigators are continuing to gather details and information regarding the incident.
