Passengers and a Crew Member Die in Conception Diving Boat Fire Near Santa Cruz Island
Santa Cruz Island, CA – Passengers and a Crew Member Die in Conception Diving Boat Fire, CA (September 5, 2019) – Passengers and one crew member who were on the diving boat Conception that caught fire off the coast of Southern California on September 1 were killed.
On board the boat were 39 people, and 34 of them are presumed to have died. The victims include 33 people who were passengers, and one person who was a member of the crew. Five other people who were members of the crew survived.
Reports say those on board the boat who are assumed to have perished include:
Kristy Finstad; Allie Kurtz; Scott Chan; Kendra Chan, Scott’s daughter; Fernisa Sison and Michael Quitasol, wife and husband; Angela Quitasol, Evan Quitasol, and Nicole Quitasol, stepsisters of Michael; Neal Baltz; Charles McIlvain; Marybeth Guiney; Lisa Fiedler; husband and wife Steve Salika and Diana Adamic, and their daughter; Mike Kohls, a crew member.
Authorities from multiple agencies are working on the incident to understand its causes. Multiple agencies responded to the incident as it was unfolding, including Good Samaritans who helped the crew members who were able to escape. The investigation is continuing.
