SUV Collides with Big Rig in Santa Clarita on I-5, Killing Three Adults and One Child
SANTA CLARITA, CA (November 5, 2018) – A collision between an SUV and a big rig on the I-5 northbound on Thursday night killed three adults and one child. The November 1 accident occurred close to Weldon Canyon Road, and to the north of it.
The time was roughly a bit before 7:30 p.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, an SUV—black in color—had been moving at a high rate of speed when it smashed into the back end of the big rig. The big rig had been stopped on the freeway’s right shoulder.
The SUV ended up wedged underneath the big rig. The impact from the crash caused the SUV to erupt in flames. Flames then moved to the big rig’s trailer, which was carrying lumber. A hill beside the freeway caught fire, which responders from the Los Angeles County Fire Department extinguished.
The person driving the SUV, and three people traveling with him—identified as a female and two males—all died at the accident scene. The CHP said the child who had been in the SUV looked to be younger than 10 years of age.
The person who had been driving the big rig was not hurt.
If anyone has information about the crash, he or she should call the Newhall office of the California Highway Patrol at 661-294-5540.
