Boulder on Highway 154 in Santa Barbara County Leads to Crashes, Injuries
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CA (January 13, 2021) – Early in the morning on Monday in Santa Barbara County, a large boulder sitting on Highway 154 led to crashes and injuries. The January 11 incident occurred on the eastbound side of the highway, near East Camino Cielo and to the east of it.
The time was roughly a little after 5:30 a.m., Santa Barbara area California Highway Patrol said.
The second collision into the boulder–which was described as the size of a car–occurred within a minute of the first collision. Neither of the vehicles that struck the boulder have been described.
Reports say a number of other vehicles narrowly avoided striking the boulder.
Responders arrived and took one person to the hospital. The types of injuries the person suffered, and current condition, are not known. The person has not been identified in reports.
Neither driver of the two vehicles that struck the boulder has been identified in reports. It is not known if anyone else was hurt in the incident.
Crews from Caltrans worked to clear the roadway after the crashes. Investigators are working on the incident.
