ATV Plunges Down Slope in Los Padres National Forest, Seriously Injuring Rider
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CA (March 30, 2020) – On Saturday, a person riding an ATV was seriously injured when the vehicle plunged down a slope in the Los Padres National Forest. The March 28 incident occurred near the Upper Oso Campground, and roughly seven miles from it.
Reports say two people—both described as males—had been driving a side-by-side ATV, according to Mike Eliason. Eliason is a public information officer.
As the two people were traveling, the ATV began to go over the side of the road. According to Eliason, one of males jumped from the vehicle before it fell off the road. The other person fell down a slope with the vehicle, plunging approximately 100 feet.
Responders from Santa Barbara County Fire arrived to help. They transported the victim to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with injuries that were described as major.
He is reported to have head and rib injuries. His current condition is not known. The victim’s name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
The identity of the person who jumped from the vehicle is not known. Reports do not say if the person was hurt in the incident.
Investigators are working to collect information and details regarding the incident.
