Man Identified as Passenger Killed in Crash on Highway 154 in Santa Barbara; Three Injured
SANTA BARBARA, CA (April 15, 2020) – Cole Debortoli was identified by authorities as the passenger who was killed in a crash on Thursday night in Santa Barbara. The April 9 incident occurred on Highway 154, near San Marcos Road and to the east of it.
The time was roughly 6:00 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say a vehicle–described as a Mazda 3–traveled into the lane of opposing traffic and collided with another vehicle–described as a Toyota 4Runner.
Responders arrived and found the passenger in the Mazda died in the crash. The Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Office identified him as Cole Debortoli, a resident of Santa Barbara 21 years old.
The driver of the Mazda was identified as Brian W. Dul, a resident of Goleta. Responders transported Dul to a hospital with injuries that were described as moderate. He was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The occupants of the Toyota were described as a woman and a man, both residents of Long Beach in their fifties. According to reports, the two people suffered minor injuries. Their names have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work into gathering details regarding the crash.
