Suspect Arrested on Suspicion of Manslaughter for 2019 Santa Ana Street-racing Crash
SANTA ANA, CA (April 23, 2020) – Santa Ana Police arrested a man on suspicion of manslaughter after an investigation that took a year into a street-racing crash. The April 20, 2019 incident occurred on S. Bear Street in the 3200 block.
Reports say the suspect–identified as Damian Chavez, a resident of Bellflower 24 years old–had been involved in street-racing against another vehicle. The other vehicle involved in the race smashed into a tree and caught on fire. The passenger and the driver of the other vehicle died in the crash.
The two people who died were identified as Jerman Marquez, 39 years old; and Richard Inda, 29 years old.
According to reports, authorities conducted a year-long investigation. Chavez was arrested on suspicion of one count of hit-and-run causing injury, and two counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
