Two Men Identified as Fatalities in Suspected Santa Ana Street Racing Crash
SANTA ANA, CA (April 24, 2019) – Richard Inda and Jerman Marquez were identified by the Orange County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office as the victims who were killed in a crash on Saturday night in Santa Ana. The April 20 incident occurred in the area of Alton Avenue and Bear Street.
The time was roughly a little after 9:15 p.m., the Orange County Fire Authority said.
Reports say authorities suspect street racing was involved in the crash. According to Anthony Bertagna, who is a corporal with the Santa Ana Police, the vehicle the two victims had been traveling in smashed into a tree on Bear Street in the 3200 block.
Respondents arrived and pronounced both victims deceased at the accident site. Inda, who was 29 years old, was the driver. Marquez, 39 years old, was a passenger.
According to police, they suspect the victims’ vehicle was racing with another vehicle, described as a Mustang, red in color. Police said that as the two vehicles were heading north on Bear and traveled through the intersection with Alton Avenue, one of the vehicles went out of control. The vehicle hit a tree located in the median in the center of Bear Street, in an area to the north of the Alton intersection.
The other vehicle, which police suspect was involved in an incident they describe as a possible street race, left the scene. Investigators are working to locate the vehicle and the driver.
