Head-on Collision between Car and Big Rig Seriously Injures Two Men in Santa Ana
SANTA ANA, CA (May 14, 2019) – A head-on collision between a car and a big rig in the afternoon on Monday in Santa Ana seriously injured two men. The May 13 incident occurred near McFadden Avenue and Harbor Boulevard.
The time was roughly 12:30 p.m., Anthony Bertagna said. Bertagna is a corporal with the Santa Ana Police Department.
Reports say a car was traveling west on McFadden and attempted to execute a turn to the left into the parking lot for Walmart. The car, according to Bertagna, clipped another vehicle—described as an Acura—that had been heading east.
The impact from the crash sent the Acura onto the center divider and then on the road in the lane of opposing traffic. The Acura then collided head-on with a big rig, and rolled over.
Good Samaritans who were at the site pushed the car over before respondents arrived. Respondents from Orange County Fire Authority had to work to extricate the two people from the wrecked vehicle. The driver and the passenger suffered injuries that were critical, and the driver’s injuries were described as life threatening. The identities of the two men have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the big rig was not taken to a hospital. It is not known if the person suffered any injury. The identity of the person has not been reported.
According to Bertagna, the vehicle that had been attempting to turn left had little damage. The vehicle has not been described, and it is not known from reports who had been driving, and whether that person was hurt. Reports do not say if anyone else had been traveling in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Investigators are trying to determine if speed played a role in the incident that caused the Acura to overturn. No other details are known at this time.
