Pickup Truck Strikes and Kills Man in Wheelchair in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, CA (July 16, 2019) – On Saturday afternoon, an elderly man was killed when a pickup truck hit him as he was crossing the road in his wheelchair in San Marcos. The July 14 incident occurred where West San Marcos Boulevard and Pico Avenue intersect.

The time was roughly 1:53 p.m., according to Yvan Rogers. Rogers is a deputy with the San Diego County Sheriff.

Reports say the man had been going across Pico Avenue, and at a point in the middle, he was hit by a pickup truck. The pickup truck was making a turn to the left from a gas station, and entering Pico Avenue.

Responders arrived and transported the man to Palomar Medical Center. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital. He was 81 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.

The person who had been driving the pickup truck was identified as a woman 39 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.

Investigators are working to understand the circumstances that led to the crash. No other details have been reported at this time.
