Los Gatos, CA – A man dies after losing control and crashing his car on Highway 17 Monday morning.

The 56-year-old man from San Jose was heading southbound on Highway 17 at about 65 mph when he was attempting to pass a pickup truck and lost control of his Honda Accord at about 10:25 a.m. The Accord hit the truck, collided with a sign post in the center median then went into oncoming traffic on the opposite side of the road. It struck a Mitsubishi sedan heading northbound and stopped after hitting a concrete barrier.
California Highway Patrol authorities declared the man dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. There were no other injuries.
Traffic was backed up for several miles; one northbound lane was closed until 12:40 p.m.
