Suspect Steals Vehicle from Scripps Ranch Home at Gunpoint
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 6, 2020) – Early in the morning on Thursday, a suspect entered a home in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego and stole a vehicle at gunpoint. The April 2 incident occurred on Rock Creek Drive in the 10400 block.
The time was roughly 2:00 a.m., San Diego Police said.
Reports say an unlocked vehicle was parked in the home’s driveway, and the suspect found keys in it. The suspect attempted to use the keys to enter the house, but the keys did not work in the door lock. Footage from a surveillance camera recorded the suspect, who seemed to be in his twenties.
The suspect entered the house through a door that was not locked on the side of the building. According to Julie Epperson, who is a lieutenant, the suspect entered the bedroom of the home’s owner.
The suspect held a gun on the owner, and demanded the person give him keys to the Porsche that was also parked in the home’s driveway. The owner gave the suspect keys to a Volvo rather than the Porsche.
The suspect took the Volvo and fled the scene.
Police officers found the abandoned vehicle by using the tracking signals emitting from its anti-theft device. The Volvo was found not long after it was taken–roughly three miles from the home–on Calle de las Rosas in the 1300 block of the Rancho Penasquitos area.
Investigators are searching for the suspect. They are continuing to collect information regarding the incident.
The owner of the home and vehicles has not been identified in reports.
