Driver of Suspected Stolen Vehicle Crashes in San Diego’s Mount Hope Area; Three Die

SAN DIEGO, CA (October 28, 2020) – Late at night on Tuesday, the driver of a suspected stolen vehicle crashed in San Diego, killing three people inside. The October 27 incident occurred in the area of Mount Hope, close to where Market Street and Raven Street intersect.

The time was roughly a little after 11:01 p.m., San Diego Police said.

An officer began to pursue the suspected stolen vehicle–described as a Honda Pilot–in the area of Sherman Heights, near the Island Avenue and 24th Street intersection, according to John Buttle. Buttle is an officer with San Diego Police. The driver would not respond to an attempt by the officer to pull the Honda over.

The Honda evaded the officer on the ground, reports say, and a police helicopter followed it. The Honda crashed roughly five minutes after the pursuit began, in the vicinity of Raven Street and Market Street, not far from I-15.

Responders arrived and found three people died in the crash, including the driver and two people who were passengers, according to Buttle. A third passenger suffered injuries that were described as severe, and life threatening.

None of the people involved in the crash have been identified, including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence. The driver has not been named.

Investigators are collecting information about the incident. The identity of the owner of the suspected stolen vehicle has not been reported.
