Collision Involving Bus in San Diego Sends High School Students to the Hospital
SAN DIEGO, CA (December 20, 2018) – A collision involving a school bus Wednesday morning in San Diego’s University City sent dozens of high school students to the hospital. The December 19 crash occurred on Genesee Avenue, a bit to the north of state Route 52, California Highway Patrol says.
The time was roughly a little before 8:30 a.m.
Reports say a car—described as an Infiniti sedan—struck the back end of the school bus on which more than three dozen students were traveling to their high school, identified as University City High School. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the car—identified as a woman in her 70s—crashed into the rear of the school bus. Reports say that CHP think the woman may have suffered a medical condition, which could have been a factor in the accident.
Respondents arrived on scene and transported all of the University City High School students, numbering 38, who had been on the bus at the time of the collision to a hospital. No one was seriously hurt, reports say. Students were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The name, and city of residence of the driver of the car has not yet been reported. It has also not yet been reported if the woman was injured in the accident.
Investigators are examining the details and information to determine what caused the crash.
