Car Hits Skateboarder in San Diego’s Mission Valley West; Man Seriously Injured

SAN DIEGO, CA (May 11, 2021) – Early in the evening on Sunday in San Diego, a car struck a man on a skateboard. The man suffered injuries that were described as life threatening in the May 9 incident, which occurred at 1900 Hotel Circle North.

The time was roughly 8:17 p.m., Robert Heims said. Heims is an officer with San Diego Police.

A vehicle–described as a Dodge Dart–had been heading west on the roadway. Reports say that according to Heims, the driver did not see the person who was on a skateboard. The man had been riding in the same lane as the vehicle was traveling.

The vehicle hit the person on the skateboard. Responders arrived and found the patient suffered a right leg that was broken, and other trauma that was described as life threatening.

The patient was identified only as 33 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.

The person who had been driving the vehicle was identified only as 19 years old. His name and city of residence have also not been reported.

Investigators are continuing their work on the incident, for which they are gathering details and information.
