Car Crashes in Encanto Area of San Diego, Killing Driver
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 27, 2019) – A car crashed early in the morning on Monday, killing the driver in the Encanto area of San Diego. The August 26 incident occurred close to where Imperial Avenue and Woodman Street intersect.
The time was roughly 2:15 a.m., San Diego Police said.
Reports say a car had been traveling at a fast speed on Woodman Street, heading north. When the vehicle was near Imperial Avenue, it hit a curb and a utility pole.
The vehicle then went over tracks for a trolley and went airborne, flying close to 15 to 20 feet above ground. At Akins Avenue, the car hit a pole and ended up on the tracks for the trolley. The force of the collision caused the engine to dislodge from the vehicle and travel through the air many feet before it smashed into a vehicle that was parked.
Responders arrived and worked to extricate the driver from the wreckage of the crashed vehicle. The victim was pronounced deceased at the accident site.
The victim was identified as a man in his twenties. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The type of vehicle the victim had been driving has not been described. The parked vehicle that was struck by the engine has also not been described, nor the owner of the vehicle identified.
Investigators are working to understand what circumstances contributed to the incident. They are gathering details and information.
