Teen Suspect Fleeing Police in Stolen Vehicle Crashes in San Bernardino, Killing Passenger

SAN BERNARDINO, CA (April 10, 2020) – Early in the morning on Thursday, a suspect fleeing police in a stolen vehicle crashed in San Bernardino, killing the passenger traveling with him. The April 9 incident occurred on 16th Street near Medical Center Drive.

The time was roughly a little before 1:00 a.m., Jeff Harvey said. Harvey is a sergeant with San Bernardino Police.

Reports say a police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle–described as a Kia Soul–which had been reported as stolen. The person who was driving the Kia left at a fast speed to flee authorities.

At a point near where Medical Center Drive and 16th Street intersect, the vehicle went out of the driver’s control. The Kia smashed into a tree, a telephone pole, and a car parked on the street.

Responders arrived and transported a person who had been a passenger in the Kia to a hospital, where he died. He was identified only as a resident of San Bernardino, 18 years old. His name has not been reported.

Responders transported the driver to a hospital. His condition was described as critical. He was identified as Brent Everette Taylor, a resident of San Bernardino, 19 years old.

The owner of the stolen vehicle has not been identified in reports.
