Box Truck Hits and Kills Two People Changing Tire in San Bernardino on 215 Freeway
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (July 2, 2020) – Late at night on Tuesday in San Bernardino, a box truck struck and killed two people who were on the shoulder of the 215 Freeway and changing a tire. The June 30 incident occurred on the southbound side of the freeway, near Palm Avenue.
The time was roughly 11:45 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say two people–identified as a woman and a man–were near two vehicles parked on the shoulder, and trying to change the left-rear tire that was flat on a Toyota Camry, according to Ivan Sandoval. Sandoval is a California Highway Patrol officer.
While they were working on the tire, a vehicle–described as a box truck–traveled out of the freeway lane and hit them. Both people died. They were identified as residents of Perris, in their 50s. Their names have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the box truck has not been identified, including name, age, gender, and city of residence.
Investigators are working to gather details and information necessary to understand the incident.
