Riverside Fire Crew Involved in Accident at the Scene of Fire

Four firefighters have escaped injury from an incident that occurred on Thursday. When their fire truck crashed in front of a Riverside home as the county declared a local emergency while battling the 22,800-acre Mountain Fire near Idyllwild, they were able to stay safe and unharmed.
The accident occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m. in front of a house on the 8800 block of Indiana Ave., near Arrowhead Street, officials told City News Service. The fire and rescue crew was trying to hurriedly arrive on the scene to battle the fire.
No one on board the vehicle required medical attention and no other injuries were reported.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. It is still unclear if distractions or unsafe driving were the cause of the accident.
The degree of damage sustained by the Riverside Fire Department truck has not yet been reported.
The accident occurred as nearly 3,000 firefighters continued to battle the 35-square-mile Mountain Fire Thursday, which has forced evacuations of families, residents and schools in Idyllwild and Fern Valley.
The blaze was 15 percent contained as of 4 p.m. Thursday.
Officials say Riverside County could be eligible for disaster funds after declaring a local emergency. The fire has taken a financial and health toll on all residents in the area.
To date, to fight the fire has cost $5.5 million to fight. State and federal officials will have to approve the release of relief funds before the city and county can be assisted in recouping some of these costs.
